"Samba" Shawl Pattern (Sideways Knitted Triangular Shawl)

My version of this sideways knitted triangular shawl has two row garter stitch stripes and a slipped stitch selvage. It is immensely comfortable to wear because the biased fabric wraps itself around the body very readily.

I have published the pattern on ravelry: Samba Shawl on ravelry.

My first attempt at two-row garter stitch stripes did not go well. I wanted an edge which can be shown off and somehow felt the ordinary garter stitch edge let me down when I carried the second colour. In this shawl I have come up with a solution by doing a slip-stitch selvedge.

Materials:
Fingering weight sock yarn in two colours, 100g or more of each colour. I have used 150 g of each colour for a larger sized shawl.
3.25 mm needles (US size 3). I recommend a circular needle about 80 or 100 cm long
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
23 stitches and 40 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) knitted in garter stitch (knit every row).

Finished size:
140 cm wide and 75 cm deep (unblocked) if using 100 g of each of two colours.
164 cm wide and 104 cm deep (unblocked) if using 150 g of each of two colours.

I have also made a class about knitting this shawl. If you have access to skillshare.com or would like to join then please use the link below. For new members it will give you a very reasonably priced trial for skillshare.com: http://skl.sh/2m0J1yj

  3. There are spun to be super lightweight and feathery. Other yarns are heavy weight so that they provide warmth when they are warm as apparel like socks and hats. stickning
